Elmwood Newsletter October 2026.pdf (170.92 KB)

It has been another busy six months and we are excited to share the latest updates with you. The Board has decided to only distribute the newsletter by email. It can always be found on our website and our Facebook page. If you wish to be added to the email distribution list, please let us know.

Elmwood’s Remembrance Ceremony

The Remembrance Ceremony will take place on Tuesday November 10 at 4:00 p.m. The list of veterans now includes more than 250 names which grows each year. Each of their graves will have a new Canadian flag and a permanent flag holder installed, and their names will be read aloud during the ceremony.

Superintendent

Dani Marks commenced work as the Superintendent on August 1, 2026. On July 31 2026, we held a private retirement function to thank Darlene Bulten for her 16 years of valuable service.

Office Hours

Dani is normally in the office Monday through Thursday from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. You can book appointments for other times by calling 613-962-4652.

Engraving on niche wall by front gate

A dove and short verse have been engraved into the front of the niche wall at near the front gate. This has greatly enhanced the area.

By-laws

A copy of our By-laws is provided when a Contract for Services is signed. Attention should be paid to Section G: Memorialization. No items made in whole or part of glass, plastic, metal or crockery are permitted on graves or monuments.

Saddle Flowers and Flowers

Many saddle flowers are blown off headstones, making it challenging for staff. We recommend writing the family name on the bottom. We kindly remind Rights Holders to check on the freshness of flowers and plants. If you are unable to, please let us know.

VOLUNTEERS & DONATIONS

Elmwood Cemetery thrives thanks to our incredible volunteers. Their time, dedication, and talents make a meaningful difference in preserving and enhancing our grounds. If you are interested in assisting around the cemetery, please contact us – we would truly appreciate your support.

Please consider including Elmwood Cemetery in your will and in your obituary for those who wish to make a memorial contribution in lieu of flowers. Every donation helps us maintain a beautiful and respectful space for generations to come.

Memorial Gift Fund

It was decided not to install memorial benches, or plant memorial trees this year. We have had to remove some trees due to age and condition. There are 31 benches distributed throughout the cemetery. There are no additional areas that can be used for benches without affecting the lawn maintenance process. We will revisit the memorial trees next year. Donations can still be made to this fund for inclusion in future memorial initiatives.

Water Lines

The water lines and taps are turned off on October 15th and turned back on May 1st.

Winter Prices

In effect from December 1st to May 1st.

Paving and sweeping of roadways

It was decided that we would not make pavement repairs to the two interior main roads this year. We had a visit from a street sweeper to clean the roadways of dust, sand, and gravel that accumulated last winter.

Floral Baskets and Shepherd’s Hooks

You are encouraged to discard planter baskets beside the garbage drums rather than in them. Every effort is made to recycle the re-usable plastic from the planter pots.

Monument Cleaning

If you would like to have your family’s monument power-washed next spring or summer, please notify the office at 613-962-4652. A round of power washing was recently completed. A donation in the amount of your choosing, for each monument to be cleaned, would be greatly appreciated. ($50 per monument is suggested as an appropriate amount.) A charitable gift receipt may be provided upon request.

Nature Trails

This is a reminder that our nature trails are open year-round for your enjoyment! Visitors to Elmwood must keep their dogs on a leash until they reach the nature trails, which are considered off-leash areas. Users of the trails are reminded to place their doggie-doo bags in the garbage bins near the entrance to the trail’s parking lot.

Softball Sponsorship

Elmwood Cemetery sponsored a Belleville Minor Softball Under-10 team once again this year. The children had a wonderful time.

The Board of Directors and Staff wish for you to enjoy a healthy and safe autumn and winter. We welcome your questions and feedback. Please reach out to us by phone at: 613-962-4652 or by email.

Respectfully. Your Elmwood Cemetery Board & Staff
